AN HONDA ACCORD FOR TETSUYA HARADA?
Former motorcycling world champion Tetsuya Harada might drive a JAS Motorsport?s Honda Accord in the second half of the 2004 ETCC. The 33-year-old Japanese, who left the bikes at the end of the 2002, after 13 seasons in the World Championship, is eager to start a new career in car racing.
?I left at 32, because I was too old for bikes, but I?m still young for cars,? said Harada, who recently tested a Formula Renault and then raced a Toyota Yaris in the Ice Racing Series round at Livigno. Together with rallyman Gianmarino Zenere, Harada was classified second overall.
As a bike rider, Harada raced for Yamaha, Aprilia and Honda, emerging as one of the best rider ever in the 250 cc category; he won 17 grands prix and the 1993 world title, finishing as vice-champion in 1995 and 2001.
Harada visited the FIA ETCC in Valencia, and yesterday he had a meeting at the JAS Motorsport workshop. ?It was very promising,? he revealed. ?We work to put together a programme for the last five or six events.?
Meanwhile the new Honda Accord 2.0i in Super 2000 specs is ready for its maiden race in Magny-Cours. The Japanese car, built and run by JAS Motorsport will move its first steps Friday afternoon at the Adria Raceway, driven by Alessandro Balzan. After he took part in the first two events of the season at the wheel of an updated Civic Type-R, the young Italian can?t wait for racing the Accord in Magny Cours: ?Compared to the Civic, the new car is a big step forward. It has all to be competitive.?
JAS Motorsport technical director, Stefano Fini said: ?We decided to hurry up, but obviously the Accord is still a young car, and we have to develop at the race meetings.?

JAS Motorsport?s brand new Honda Civic 2.0i in the FIA Super 2000 technical specifications, completed its first test today, at the Italian racetrack of Adria.
?It was only a shake down. Just a few laps before sending back the car to our workshop, where we will finish working on the details and the livery before sending it to Magny-Cours for racing in the ETCC meeting,? the team?s technical director Stefano Fini explained.
JAS regular ETCC driver, Alessandro Balzan, was at the wheel. ?Alessandro was very pleased. The few laps he completed today were enough to see that the Accord at the very beginning of its development is already as good as the Civic Type-R we have used so far,? said Fini.
The Honda Accord 2.0i completed this first test in Adria without any technical problems, which was a very good omen in view of its first appearance in the fifth and sixth rounds of the FIA European Touring Car Championship, this weekend on the French circuit of Nevers Magny-Cours.

PRACTICE 2: BALZAN SHINES IN THE WET
The second session was wet, although the racing lines began to dry in the final minutes. Again James Thompson emerged as the fastest driver. Nine minutes into the session he clocked a 1:54.137, then he improved to 1:52.898, and finally completed a lap in 1:52.364 which was the fastest one for good.
Just before the chequered flag Dirk M?ller set the second-fastest time in 1:52.565, demoting Gabriele Tarquini (1:52.612) to third. Fourth-fastest was Alessandro Balzan, very impressive in the JAS Motorsport Honda Accord. For most of the session the Italian driver managed to stay within the top-three, and finally his best lap time (1:52.957) was only 0.6 seconds slower than Thompson?s.
SEAT drivers were also very competitive in the wet, with Frank Diefenbacher (1:53.025) and Rickard Rydell (1:53.248) ranking sixth and seventh, just behind Fabrizio Giovanardi (1:52.967). The two Peugeot 307 cars improved significantly: Jason Watt set the nine-fastest time (1:53.385) and Jan Magnussen the twelfth-fastest (1:53.878).
